Cerrowire®, a Marmon/Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading U.S. manufacturer of copper building wire for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The company has plants in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, and Utah. They manufacture and distribute quality copper and aluminum wire and cable products, including building wire, portable cord, and specialty wires. Innovative features and value-added services provide performance advantages throughout the distribution and installation process.
Cerrowire needed to transform their communication about health, wellness, and worker safety. They came to Continuwell in hopes of decreasing health care expenses with access to live independent nurses and improving communication about the resources available in the company. They also wanted to start company-wide programs to encourage health and wellness and improve access to safety requirements. Before the deployment of the Continuwell mobile application, the use of wellness programs was low, and safety information was not easily accessible for workers on a field job.
The goal was to create a mobile application that would be intuitive and easy to use. Cerrowire’s HR Director, Mr. Robert Haynes, concluded that most of their workers could access company resources and requirements on their personal mobile devices. Making resources and requirements easy to access on their phones would increase efficiency and employee satisfaction. He also concluded that it would be worth the time for him to help his older workers download and use the mobile application. He hoped to decrease the number of phone calls to his office to answer simple questions on healthcare resources and benefits.

Finding the Right Mobile Framework
The Cerrowire team had several requirements. First, they wanted to be able to customize a mobile solution and change it over time as their resources changed. Second, they wanted a solution that was backed by robust features and built-in technology that would allow for on-demand employee engagement. Finally, they wanted to make it easier for remote employees to find answers to any questions they might have, for managers to contact specific groups, and for everyone to stay on top of current tasks at hand.
To create a mobile application (app), Cerrowire turned to Continuwell’s enterprise mobile solution. The team chose Continuwell for its enterprise functionality, coupled with its employee healthcare resources, including access to live Nurse Health Ambassadors 24/7. Continuwell’s triage nurses played a crucial role by being a trusted resource for employees to call. These nurses evaluate symptoms and ensure that members receive the right level of care for their symptoms. Nurses were able to decrease unnecessary ER usage and encourage wellness resources, helping improve employee health and save health care expenses. In addition, the Nurse Health Ambassadors save morbidity by ensuring that people are sent to the ER even when they underestimate their symptoms.
Faster Time to Market
By leveraging Continuwell’s mobile application and easy to customize user interface components, Cerrowire avoided having to recreate a company mobile app from scratch, saving countless hours of time and effort. This allowed for a faster Go Live date. With Continuwell’s platform, Cerrowire modernized and extended its existing resources out to users quickly, with no disruptions to business. Continuwell’s dedicated customer success team worked with Cerrowire to select the essential company resources to be included in the mobile solution for employees and a plan of additional resources to be added in the future. The Continuwell engagement team also helped Cerrowire set up a plan for push notifications to engage employees with the company resources. The HR director was happy to have a team of experts in Continuwell who could take care of sending planned push notifications and encouraging employees to use company resources.
The Cerrowire HR Director held meetings with employees to explain the features of the Continuwell mobile application. Employees and their spouses were encouraged to call the Free 24/7 Nurse Health Ambassador line should any medical symptom arise. This feature proved to be successful because the employees and their spouses liked the independence aspect of the Health Ambassadors – none of the information discussed was disclosed to the insurance company or the employer.
How the App Works
The process for users to sign up on the Continuwell app is quick and straightforward. The user downloads the app from the app store, inputs some basic demographic information and gets instant access to their company dashboard.
The mobile app was customized by what Cerrowire wanted to promote, placing all resources in one single location for employees. Thanks to the mobile app, employees get to access Cerrowire from the device of their choice, anytime, anywhere.
Continuwell developed the capabilities on the app so that employees could read and share information more efficiently, with instantaneous notifications in real-time. Cerrowire was also able to communicate to different employee groups with separate video tutorials and push notifications for different groups.

Within months of deploying the mobile app, Cerrowire noticed an immediate increase in productivity and was pleased with how simple it was to send segmented messages to employees. What once took hours or days with paper-based processes, now only takes minutes and a few taps on a mobile device.
As part of the project, Continuwell placed Cerrowire’s OSHA and Safety requirements database in their mobile application, thus allowing all the safety rules to be available while on the field and easily searchable by keyword. Continuwell helped Cerrowire establish an electronic safety recognition form to be completed during audits, for employees to submit safety suggestions, and submit near-miss incidents. Employee participation in these safety programs increased by 20% percent. As a result, Cerrowire gained certification by the Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (INSHARP) and received an award at the State of Indiana Governor Renovation Banquet.
Cerrowire also observed a decrease in medical claims compared to past years. Through the use of the Continuwell platform, Cerrowire was able to track outcomes from employee calls to the Health Ambassadors and was able to directly correlate an 8% reduction in healthcare spending. The savings were attributed to employees contacting the Health Ambassadors, having easy access to the company’s wellbeing resources, and from employees avoiding unnecessary ER visits.
In addition to direct health savings, the HR director reported a significant reduction in the number of phone calls and emails asking about company resources. Mr. Hanes was surprised about the willingness of older workers to use the mobile application. In fact, his oldest employee came to him once upset because she updated her phone and needed help downloading the Continuwell app right away! She reported that the Continuwell application had become an integral part of her daily work.
In just weeks, the mobile solution allowed Cerrowire to ease access to company resources and reduce their traditional paper-based processes with a streamlined and secure self-service solution. The HR director, Mr. Robert Haynes estimated that he spent 80% less time explaining the resources available to employees.
Recently, Cerrowire also added a free gym membership to the Continuwell app. Over 50% of employees signed up within the first month, with engagement and usage continuing to grow.

What is Next For Cerrowire:
Cerrowire is taking advantage of the ability to constantly customize and change its Continuwell mobile application. They are now planning an expansion of the program by adding more employees from other companies in the group and plan to add more solutions to the original mobile application. First, they are adding a new feature that will allow employees to communicate more effectively with the HR director, allowing time savings and efficiency. Second, Cerrowire is planning to place additional company resources in the mobile application. Finally, the company is also considering taking advantage of the ability to white label Continuwell to create a Cerrowire mobile application.
